Since 2000, the regulators have been routinely issuing guidance to direct bankers’ attention to the safety and soundness issues that put them at risk. In April, the OCC and the FRB issued additional guidance- Supervisory Guidance on Model Risk Management (OCC 2011-12)- which addresses the development and use of analytic models to manage the risks your financial institution faces day to day. This particular issuance insists that your model risk management models as well as all related governance and controls, policies, procedures, and practices are consistent with this newest guidance. In addition, there are numerous reminders of the risks involved if the models themselves are misapplied, misused or incorrect.

Join this webinar to learn about:

  • The significance of the guidance with an emphasis on the extended focus of this newer guidance
  • How the Guidance defines “models” and which of your bank’s systems and methods for quantifying risk fall under this guidance
  • The modeling process from conception to development to use.
  • Validating models.
  • Practical steps you should take in your bank to practice effective model risk management.

Our risk management expert, John Hurlock, invites you to submit any questions you might have in advance, during and after the session. You can email him at jhurlock@smslp.com.
